Portland is the largest city in the state of Maine. It is known for its amazing waterfront location, lovely downtown area with a small-town feel, and amazing access to pristine wilderness. Portland embraces the slightly isolated nature of the town within New England. There is an ideal mix of being able to socialize while having privacy at home. Residents flock to downtown Portland when they are looking for a night out or a great family weekend. You will often see people relaxing in the park’s green spaces reading a book, taking the dog out, or playing on the beach and in the water during the summer. The Armory Lounge has a sophisticated bar and lounge with amazing bar snacks and top-rated cocktails for every occasion. Blyth & Burrows is a classic bar with a historic theme. It is the perfect place to soak in some history and enjoy small, upscale plates. 

Residents in the Portland area love to shop locally, and the downtown area is full of small businesses providing groceries, home goods, and clothes. Things to Do

Portland is a hub for the arts in New England. So, they have the best live music, concerts, and art shows. The summer is by far the best time to be out in the community, and it is when most of the local events occur. However, Thompson's Point in downtown Portland has year-round activities for all ages. Ice skating is a popular activity in Maine, and the ice rink at Thompson's Point draws a crowd. Seasonal markets in the summertime and Christmas include outdoor concerts and vendors from the surrounding area.

The Old Port district is a great place for a day outing. It highlights the maritime and fishing history of the rocky Maine coast and has boutiques and restaurants. The Eastern Promenade is a wonderful walkway attached to several green spaces — and a beach! It is a great place for relaxing or meeting up with friends during the summer. The Casco Bay Parade of Lights displays beautiful Christmas decorations and lights up the boats in the harbor.
